Hermann Tortoise  (Testudo hermanni)

Captive Bred baby Hermann Tortoise hatched 2021.  This Tortoise is microchipped with paperwork. The Hermann’s Tortoise is a great choice as they are a medium sizes tortoise growing to around 13-20 cm (5-8 in). they make a lovely pet, oh and did I mention so cute!  We regularly have this species of tortoise in stock.

Tortoises require a spacious viavarium or tortoise table to keep them in.  They require high daytime basking temperatures and some set-ups require temperature regulation.  Although it is often recommended to keep tortoises in open topped enclosures, these are not suited to cold environments, such as no room heating overnight or colder houses.  Remember, you will have to heat all of the room that they live in, if it is an open topped tortoise table.  Vivarium’s are better suited for some homes as they can be environmentally controlled.

Tortoises love to be out in the garden during hot dry days (summer of course) but will need to be kept safe and have a nice indoor home to come into at night.  Hibernation of babies is not recommended so they will use their indoor housing during the winter to enable them to stay warm and safe.

Tortoise species need basking and UVB lighting.  UVB lighting is recommended to be changed every 12 months or less depending on manufacturers guidelines.  UVB ages as the light burns so will reduce quickly, therefore must be changed even if it appears bright to our eyes.

At Living Reef Reptiles we have lots of housing and equipment for your new tortoise and will be happy to assist in your choices.
