Set includes 1 x XF350 Gyre and 1 x Controller.

Why gyre generator and not wavemaker?

Wave makers excel in creating waves. While waves are spectacular to watch in an aquarium, they are, in fact, moving majority of the water vertically up and down with relatively low horizontal movement. Dead spots are often found at the bottom of the aquarium trapping detritus and/or uneaten food. Not only are they unsightly in the tank, they are a nutrient source which will affect your water quality.

In order to create sufficient flow in your aquarium to suit your coral needs as well as eliminating dead spots, at least 2 pumps facing each other are needed to create the alternate current mimicking ocean currents. The more pumps you add, the better the flow would be, but this also result in numerous powerheads inside the aquarium. Not only would this become unsightly in an aquarium, it also increases the temperatures of the water not to mention the cost of all those powerheads.

Gyre Flow Generator

Gyre generators, on the other hand, excel in moving shear flow of water from one side of the aquarium to the other. The shear flow of water is so strong that it would continue down the opposite end of the aquarium to the bottom and flow back to the other side. This achieves a full circulation with in an aquarium, generating a “gyre flow”. The Gyre with its circulating flow excels in suspending detritus in the aquarium which allows it to be mechanically filtered out either through filter sock or the skimmer.

With the crossflow technology, a single gyre can easily circulate the entire water column inside the aquarium, eliminating the need for extra powerheads. This reduces heat transferred while minimizing extra equipment inside the aquarium so you can focus on your prized corals or fish. By swapping out one of the included reverse flow impeller and adjusting the mode, the unique design and programing of the Gyre allows for an alternating flow in the aquarium all with a single pump, making this the most versatile pump on the market.

The Gyre comes with an easy to use controller which have 4 different modes for you to choose from:

1. Constant Mode
This mode allows you to create the unique constant gyre in your tank which corals love. The strength of the flow can be set to suit the aquarium's need.

2. Pulse Mode
This mode allows you to pulse the gyre to achieve the iconic wave yet still maintain the circulating gyre in the aquarium. You can operate 2 different speeds between pulses or pulse it on and off to achieve the desired effect.

3. Alternating Mode
This mode is an industry first which allows the Grye to reverse the direction of its flow. This is especially useful in creating alternating current inside the aquarium. By swapping out one of the included reverse flow impeller on the gyre, an alternating gyre flow can be created with a single pump. The strength of the forward and reverse flow, as well as the flow duration can be easily set to achieve the desired effect.

4. Feeding Mode
This mode will turn the pumps off for 10 mins allowing sufficient time for the fish and corals to be fed without having the food cycled into the filtration system.

New features are as follows:

SINE WAVE motor technology allowing the 300 series to run at near silent levels.

Improved motor / magnet design and cable positioning.

New Flow Director attachment that enhances water flow direction allowing more precision within the aquarium. The attachment also shields the cages and rotors from light slowing down algae growth and therefore reducing maintenance time. Another feature of the flow director is the gyre can be positioned closer to the surface improving surface agitation without creating vortices.

Easier to adjust flow cages.

Improved App with new custom wave mode.

Smaller footprint within the aquarium.
